Statement

My work is driven by an attempt to reconcile my ideals and values with my knowledge of the world and specifically of humanity. I believe that life is ultimately devoid of transcendent meaning or purpose and that this leaves individuals the task of creating significance in their own lives. Like Plato, I feel that to live an ‘unexamined life’ is to deny the full faculty of being human and to truly examine is to be relentlessly questioning of everything and anything that can be perceived. However, in the context of an information-saturated world this can become a task of overwhelming proportion. To have every detail of the world at one’s disposal is an appalling revolution for the human consciousness. It begs us to question our own nature and forces us to realize that our ideals have little place in such a harsh reality. We must ask ourselves, endlessly, how we truly want to live out our brief existence on this planet. I begin to answer this question through my artwork.
